SKS Engineers was authorized to begin work on the new John’s Hill Magnet School building alongside O’Shea Builders in June 2020, a 98,000 square foot building including a new auditorium, gymnasium, and classroom space. We drilled 23 test borings and found groundwater and soft-soil areas, which might have become a significant problem for construction on this site if not identified. However, our findings enabled us to warn O’Shea Builders to prepare for water pumping, as well as to use trench boxes or bracing during construction. We were ultimately able to recommend cost-effective shallow, continuous foundations.
SKS Engineers finished work in January 2022, after the start of John’s Hill’s first school year.
